What is a good Executive Assessment score?
Frankly, it’s the one that will get you into your Executive MBA program of choice.
While this answer may seem simplistic, the EA score that you need will depend on a number of factors:
- Prior education
- Current title, position, and industry
- Background
However, the most important factor by far is whether you are a “good fit” for the program.
Think About “Fit” Before Executive Assessment Score
Simply put, “fit” means you match what the program wants and the program has something to offer you. Consider your characteristics versus those of the program and ensure that you match.
For example, MIT’s 2020 EMBA class of students had an average of 17 years work experience. About 59 percent already had Master’s degrees (or above) and 83 percent were director-level or above. A regional manager with 8 years of work experience including 5 years of leadership would not be a “good fit” for MIT.
If you are a good fit for your chosen EMBA program, now it’s time to think about that Executive Assessment score.
Executive Assessment Score: Raw Scores
You receive raw scores for each of the 3 sections on the EA:
- Integrated Reasoning: 0 – 20
- Verbal Reasoning: 0 – 20
- Quantitative Reasoning: 0 – 20
These scores are then combined to produce a total score from 100 to 200.
Unlike the scoring of another MBA admissions test, the GMAT, the scores of each section on the EA weigh equally in your total score. (On the GMAT, only the verbal and quantitative sections count towards your total score.)
So, what good are the raw scores?
EMBA programs generally use the quantitative section raw score as an indicator of whether you will struggle with the quant aspects of your EMBA courses.
Low Quant Score?
If your quant score is too low, admissions officers may ask you to take an additional quant course.
Low Verbal Score?
If your verbal score is low and you are a not a native English speaker, you may be asked to take the IELTS or a writing workshop after you are accepted.
At Prep Executive, we like to see that your raw scores are balanced to indicate that you are well rounded. We alternate your preparation between the quant and verbal so that your scores increase together, giving you the best chance of ending with balanced raw scores.
Executive Assessment Score: Total Score
Through some magic by the Graduate Management Admission Council, the raw scores combine to give a total score up to 200.
A good score on the EA is generally considered to be 150…
But, since the EA is still a relatively new test, many EMBA programs haven’t decided on their exact requirements.
Many programs require you to take the EA, but don’t formally admit that there is a preferred score.
Here’s what Duke Fuqua has to say:
How to Determine Your Good Executive Assessment Score
Keep in mind, your professional background and “fit” with the program is much more important than your EMBA score. You can be admitted with less than a 150, but it is unlikely that a high EA score will make up for deficiencies in your profile.

You write that we need a 150 on the EA, but how do you know this?
Hi Katie, we’ve worked with students in person since the EA was launched a few years ago. Our students are told by admissions officers in person or via email. Students then provide this feedback to us. You are correct in that we have not seen a published number from any program. The best way to confirm the score you need is to establish a relationship with the admissions officer at your preferred school and then ask them. Thanks for your question!
I got a 135 on the EA. Is that enough or should I retake it?
Hi Maira,
I recommend retaking the EA, just to be on the safe side. Before you retake the exam, be sure to prepare more…especially in the quant. You want to ensure you have a nice high quant score to demonstrate you can handle the quantitative aspects of your chosen EMBA program. Happy studying!
Is 145 good enough?
Hi Nicholas,
Since your score is so close to 150, you’ll have to check with your chosen EMBA program. I suspect they will look at the raw scores, particularly the quant, to determine if they will accept your score or ask you to retake the exam. Hope this helps!
Hi, thanks for this info. I really had no idea what score to target.
Hello Prep Executive team. Please tell me if more prestigious universities want higher scores than regional universities.
Hi Amy,
Currently, most of the universities our students have informed us about, including top tier ones, are asking for around a 150. This score requirement may change in the future, so it’s important to prepare as thoroughly as you can. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for the information
Hi admin, It was hard to find this information in google. I got a 150 on the EA. Should I take it again to be more competitive?
Hi Stephanie,
For many EMBA programs, the EA score is like a box to be checked. A higher score doesn’t necessarily make you more competitive. If you developed a relationship with an admissions officer at your chosen school, you should be able to discretely ask her what score they are looking for and make your decision based on that feedback. Hope this helps!
is the ea only in english?
Hi Lasede,
The EA is only in English. I’m not sure another language version will be released because the exam is used for Executive MBA programs around the world that have English as the primary language of instruction. Thanks for your question!
What’s the max EA score?
Hi Barney,
The max EA score is 200. Cheers!
thanks
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could share their thoughts on achieving a 152 with the respective breakdown: IR: 10 / VR: 14 / QR: 8. I’m worried that even though I’ve achieved a “target score” my quant is too low. Should I be considering taking the test again or am I overthinking this? Advice is appreciated!
Hi Vaughn,
In general, your quant is a bit low. The raw score is almost half that of your verbal. However, I think you should talk to the admissions officer at your chosen EMBA program before you decide to take the Executive Assessment again. Hopefully, you have already started a dialogue with her because then she will give you an honest answer based on your profile. If you haven’t already started one, email them about your interest and ask for a resume’ review. After they do that and you’ve had 3 or 4 email exchanges, ask them this questions about your score. Hope this helps!
