Considering the Executive Assessment vs. GMAT for your Executive MBA application? Many EMBA programs allow you to submit scores from one of the two tests with your application.
That’s when the confusion starts…
What’s on each test?
How are the EA and GMAT similar? How are they different?
Is it really just the Executive Assessment vs. GMAT or should you consider the GRE as well?
To help you understand the situation and make your decision about which test you will take, we have put together an Executive Assessment vs. GMAT infographic.
Take a look, then see our comments on which test you should choose.
Executive Assessment vs. GMAT: Which one should you take?
If your chosen Executive MBA program allows you to select between the EA and the GMAT, take the EA!In addition to being roughly half the length of the GMAT and having NO essay, the Executive Assessment has:
- Shorter verbal questions
- No geometry
- A lower level of difficulty problems
- An option to go back, skip, and change questions
- Equally weighted sections so you know all your prep counts
Check here to see if the EMBA program you are applying to accepts the EA. If it’s not on the list, ask the admissions officer.

so if the ea is so much better than the mat, why do schools still ask for the mat?
Hi Steve,
EMBA programs are just trying to give applicants options. If someone is applying to multiple programs, accepting the GMAT in addition to the EA means that they will only have to take 1 test. Similarly, if someone has taken the GRE in the last 5 years for applications to other graduate schools, accepting the GRE means they can submit those scores. If you’re new to the whole application process, though, I recommend just taking the EA. Thanks for your question!
Hi, what about EA vs. GRE?
Hi Oliver,
That’s super easy! Take the EA! The GRE has vocabulary, weird quantitative comparisons, 2 essays, and at least 6 sections. Avoid it if you can by taking the EA. Thanks for your question.
